Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake has emphasised that terrorism should be wiped out from the country to restore the peaceful environment which prevailed in the past.
Addressing a public rally in Medirigiriya to consolidate the victory of the Freedom Alliance at the Provincial polls, the Prime Minister said the soldiers have come very much closer to uprooting terrorism which had plagued the country for nearly 30 years.
The final battle is waged to liberate the entire country from the terrorists. Therefore, he said it is the onus of the nation to sink all differences and strengthen and bless the troops to achieve this historic victory.
The meeting was organised by Deputy Minister Siripala Gamlath. A mammoth gathering was present at the meeting held at the public esplanade at Chaithya Road in Medirigiriya.
Minister Maithripala Sirisena reiterated that no other party had the capability of preventing a resounding victory of the Freedom Alliance at the Provincial polls. He claimed that the UNP has already suffered major defeats in the campaigning for the Provincial polls, not only within the Polonnaruwa District but in the other Districts as well. The JVP after ditching the Government, is now stranded. It has broken into two and there are internecine clashes. Minister Sirisena said as a result, JVP supporters in villages are rallying round the SLFP, endorsing the President as their leader.
Parliamentarian Basil Rajapakse emphasised that the Government was in the process of vanquishing terrorism and hoisting the national flag in all 25 Districts within the country. They are proud to announce that the Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee Districts of the East had been completely liberated from the murderous LTTE.
The Government did not stop there but held local Government polls and also organised elections to elect a Provincial Council. The Mannar District has been liberated from the terrorists. Basil Rajapakse added that only the Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi Districts are to be liberated.
