More Terrorist Bunkers & Terrorists Fall

 WANNI: ADVANCING ARMY TROOPS on Tuesday (29) stormed the area, east of VELANKULAM in MANNAR and discharged a massive volume of fire that made terrorists to flee away from their existing defence positions in MANNAR and KILINOCHCHI district boundaries. During those confrontations several LTTE strong points were attacked and destroyed by the troops who also ambushed and killed four terrorists in ADAMPANKULAM at about 11.45 a.m. on Tuesday (29).

Troops in the meantime, captured LTTE strong points in KALMADU, MUNDAMPIDDI and MALLAVI south in Tuesday (29) afternoon. One LTTE dead body, one 60 mm mortar, one T-56 weapon, one tractor and one motorbike belonging to the LTTE were recovered from those places afterwards.  

Meanwhile, LTTE units deployed in THUNUKKAI and KAVILAN areas directed two mid-noon attacks on two different directions using LTTE mortars. Troops responded to the challenge and killed eight terrorists in the subsequent clashes. Mortar rounds fired by the terrorists from their gun points, north of THUNUKKAI killed two valiant soldiers and injured three more. 

A similar round of fighting ensued in VAVUNIKULAM and MALLAVI south west of A-9 road, killed one soldier and injured five more. 

One more soldier sustained injuries in confrontations with the terrorists in the general area of MUNDAMPIDDI on MANNAR- POONERYN (A-32) road on Tuesday (29). 

In the meantime, Army troops inching eastwards met with resistance from the terrorists in KALMADU and ADAMPANKULAM areas in MANNAR the same day (29). One LTTE strong point from where the terrorists used to launch attacks on the troops was captured from the same KALMADU area around 2.30 p.m.

Five terrorists on the strong point were killed following the attack while three more terrorists were injured. Troops recovered one LTTE dead body, one T-56 weapon, one hand grenade and one dog tag from the location. 

One soldier laid his life in the mission.  

Troops engaged in fighting at ADAMPANKULAM meanwhile killed four LTTE terrorists who were crossing an Army ambush around 11.45 a.m.. A fresh clash in the same area injured ten LTTE terrorists around 2.25 p.m. 

In the meantime, two LTTE terrorists were killed during a confrontation on Tuesday (29) around 8.45 a.m. in the north of NAVVI area, VAVUNIYA.

In the WELIOYA sector, Army troops attacked and destroyed a heavily fortified LTTE strong point, north of KIRIIBBANWEWA after a seven-hour long battle that commenced around 5.30 a.m.. Three terrorists were killed in the attack, followed by an extensive search operation in and around the area. The search helped the troops recover five thousand and five hundred (5500) rounds of T-56 ammunition, one hundred and fifty (150) rounds of MPMG (Multi Purpose Machine Gun) ammunition, four LTTE uniforms, two magazines, one GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun) link, eight 60 mm mortar bombs, five hand grenades and fifteen field dressings.One soldier sustained injuries in the incident.Meanwhile, two soldiers sacrificed their lives during a confrontation on Tuesday (29) between 10.30-10.50 a.m. in the north of JANAKAPURA.

 At the same time, troops recovered one pressure mine of 12 kg on Tuesday (29) around 1.50 p.m. from the general area of JANAKAPURA.
