The counter terror offensives aimed at liberating Wanni region from terror clutches continued yesterday (June 21) as troops moved further ahead crushing terror defences in the Jaffna, Vavuniya, Welioya and Mannar battlefronts. According to the military reports received from the battlefield 15 terrorists were killed, 12 others wounded and 7 more were recorded as either killed or wounded. In addition, two soldiers were killed and 9 others injured during yesterday's incidents.
In the Jaffna, theatre of battle troops continued to attack terror bunkers in the Muhamalai, Nagarkovil and Kilaly areas. One soldier was killed due to an LTTE booby trap in the Kilaly area during the morning hours.
On the Vavuniya front, in the Wanni theatre of operations - troops had several confrontations in the Navatkulama, Chiraddikulama , Palamodai, Mundimurippu, Navvi and Kurukkolkulam areas and claimed 6 errorists killed and another wounded. Also, one soldier was killed and 3 others suffered injuries during these confrontation. Troops found 1500 ammo, 2 "Arul" bombs, and a hand grenade from a captured LTTE bunker in the Periyamadhu area last evening. On the Mannar front troops confronted with LTTE in Nedunkandal, and Mulikkandai area and claimed 4 terrorists were killed and 2 others wounded.
Four soldiers suffered injuries. On the Welioya front, daylong clashes occurred in the North of Janakapura, Andankulama, and North of Vedukkanary areas as troops continued their march in the Mulaithiuvu jungle. Troops claimed 5 terrorists were killed , 9 others wounded and 7 more were either killed or wounded.
Two soldiers suffered injuries due to anti personnel mine explosions. Meanwhile, troops removed one trapped mine and 60 AP mines during clearing operations in the area.
Limited offensives are continuing.
