Monday, 10 August 2009

Canada has decided to triple its aid for humanitarian services in Sri Lanka to benefit the internally displaced persons.

Canada's Development Minister Bewverly Oda who was on a three day official visit to Colombo has recommended that the current aid of 7.5 million Canadian dollars be increased to 22.5 million Canadian dollars.

The Canadian Minister who was in Colombo visited the displaced in welfare camps  last friday to gather first hand information.

She was pleased with the measures taken by the Colombo government towards the welfare of the internally displaced  now temporarily housed in several welfare camps.

On her return to Canada she has recommended that  the humanitarian aid flow should be tripled as the Sri Lankan government  needed more funds to meet the needs of the displaced.
