President Mahinda Rajapaksa today handed over the guardianship of the two baby elephants- Raju and Sindu by way of a scroll in keeping with traditions, now housed at the Temple of Tooth Relic to Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters.
President also instructed the Minister of Sports and Public Recreation Gamini Lokuge to make necessary arrangements to keep the two baby elephants with the she-elephant until they are big enough to separate from the parents.
The story of the two baby jumbos were turned into a controversy by certain sections of the media but vet experts dismissed media claims that the two animals were harassed.
These experts accompanied the media to view the two baby jumbos and later held media conference to straighten out facts.
Ministers Mr.Gamini Lokuge,Keheliya Rabukwella,S.M.Chandrasena, Governer Tikkiri Kobbakaduwa,Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka,Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dala,Secretary of Sports,S.Liyanagama were also present at this occasion.Courtesy: news.lk
