LTTE mob attack at Buddhist temple in Paris

Tuesday, 12 May 2009

A group of unidentified LTTE mob has led a cowardly attack at the International Buddhist Centre at Le Bourget in Paris on Sunday (May 10), causing extensive damages to property, Sri Lankan embassy sources in France reported.

The LTTE mob attack comes within hours of the Vesak festival, the most sacred festival of Buddhists the world over. The Sri Lankan embassy officials, while condemning the LTTE terrorist attack, cited a rise of LTTE led mobs including physical torture and acts of sheer intimidation against Sri Lankan expatriates. Many of the victims are said to be Sri Lankans of Sinhala origin the embassy said, adding that these attacks are indeed perpetrated part of the LTTE campaign to instigate communal violence and hatred between the Sinhalese and Tamil communities.

The Paris Police is yet to arrest the culprits as Buddhist monks and community leaders are unanimous in their opinion that the dastardly act was organised by the international arm of the LTTE terrorists led by Kumaran alias Selvaraj Pathmanathan.

Unequivocally condemning the violent act against a place of religious worship by LTTE and its front-liners, the embassy officials have urged French authorities to take effective measures to ensure the safety of the religious centres and commercial establishment of the Sri Lankan community in France.
