Colombo to host World Accreditation Day Workshop

 Colombo (Asiantribune.com): To concede the World Accreditation Day June 9, the third Regional SAARC Accreditation Follow-up Workshop in association with PTB Cooperation Germany, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SAARC Secretariat, SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will be held in Colombo from 8 to 10 June, according to Tissa Jayaweera, Senior Vice President, Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL).

Sarath Mendis, Director/CEO Sri Lanka Accreditation Council of the Ministry of Science and Technology will coordinate the event. Mr. Jayaweera said that Dr. Thomas Facklam, Chairman International Accreditation Forum will attend the function.

 The first SAARC–PTB accreditation workshop was held in Dhaka in January 2008 and the second was held in New Delhi in December 2008.

Dhaka workshop presented information on the status of national accreditation systems, different models for regional accreditation and the New Delhi workshop identified the spectrum of potential regional activities. The third one in June 2009 in Colombo will follow-up on the results of the first two. 

The Colombo workshop will have two aims – first to facilitate an information exchange on international developments in accreditation and a dialogue on the perceptive of international organizations. The second aim is to specify needs and contributions for regional collaboration and to develop concrete steps and responsibilities for short and mid-term activities.  

Besides, the regional SAARC workshop will be closely associated with a national awareness event, for private and public accreditation stakeholders in Sri Lanka.
