President Mahinda Rajapaksa told the Cabinet yesterday that there was an attempt by the LTTE to avoid its imminent defeat, at least with the help of international elements. He said Sri Lankan diplomatic missions abroad should act promptly to counter its propaganda.

The President said that the LTTE was disseminating false propaganda against the government and the security forces to achieve this goal and Sri Lankan diplomatic missions should speed up the countering of this.

Cabinet met last evening, with the President in the chair, for about half an hour.

The ministers also discussed the crisis at the Ceylinco Sussex School Network, with the parents requesting Education Minister Susil Premajayantha to take over the schools.

Mr. Premajayantha brought this matter to the attention of Cabinet, and some ministers observed that there would be no difficulty in running the schools.

Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardane said that his property had been rented by the company to run the Ceylinco Sussex School at Nugegoda, and that he had not received the rent for the last few months.

He had reportedly told the Cabinet that students were required to pay to attend these schools and, therefore, the school network could be operated without any problem under a proper management.

The parents are to meet Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal today to discuss the next step to be taken to protect the school network. There are around 5000 students studying at these schools.
