Wednesday, 25 March 2009
5 paddy farmers were killed and 2 wounded when a group of LTTE terrorist infiltrators stormed into Dehiwatte village, a remote locality at Serunuwara yesterday (March 24) at around 11p.m.

The injured people were admitted to the Kantale Hospital, Serunuwara Police said.  "A group of terrorists armed with T-56 assault riffles had taken 7 farmers who were looking-after their cultivation forcibly and killed 5 at point blank range", a Serunuwara Police official said citing statements given by the two other injured farmers.  "The terrorists had tied their (farmers) hands and taken them to an isolate location, some 2 km from the paddy fields:  Forced them to kneel and shot indiscriminately at close range", police sources further said.

The bodies of the deceased farmers were taken to the General Hospital at Muttur for post-mortem. On 6th April, 1985 LTTE terrorists killed over 15 civilians at Dehiwatta, in a similar village massacre.
