Friday, 13 March 2009

Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann, the President of the United Nations General Assembly and former Foreign Minister of Nicaragua during the Sandinista revolutionary government, was presented by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, with a copy of his book ‘Fidel’s Ethics of Violence: The Moral Dimension of the Political Thought of Fidel Castro’. The photograph shows the Ambassadors of Cuba, Venezuela and Sri Lanka, flanking Nicaragua’s Padre Miguel, who is seen holding the copy of Dr Jayatilleka’s book.  In the course of his remarks on the occasion, Padre Miguel said that he was fortunate to have known Fidel Castro for over 30 years.  This year, 2009 marks the 30th anniversary of Nicaragua’s Sandinista Revolution.
