The Sri Lankan delegation to the on-going High-Level Segment of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva met with the UN High-Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Navenethem Pillai, today, on the third day of the High-Level Segment.
The Sri Lanka delegation also addressed the members of both the Eastern European Group and the Non Aligned Movement. H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Ambassador/ Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Geneva, hosted a working lunch in honour of Hon. Mahinda Samarasinghe. This was attended by the President of the Human Rights Council, H.E. Mr. Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi and Ambassadors from 28 countries representing all regional groups.
The delegation led by Hon. Minister Samarasinghe and comprising Ambassador/ Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Attorney-General Hon. Mohan Peiris, P.C., Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha and Dr. Rohan Perera, P.C., also conducted bilateral meetings with the Vice- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea Hon. Mr. Shin Kak-Soo, the Permanent Under Secretary of foreign Affairs of Sweden Hon. Mr. Frank Belfrage, the Minister for the UN and Human rights of the United Kingdom Hon. Lord Mark Mallock Brown, the Foreign Minister of South Africa, Hon. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma and the Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations-Geneva, H.E. Mr. Baodong Li.
Hon. Minister also addressed the Member States Briefing on the humanitarian situation in Sri Lanka and presentation of the Common Humanitarian Action Plan (CHAP) organised by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Geneva.
