
People living in Hambantota have pledged their support to rebuild railways in Jaffna. This is on a special request by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, said the Minister of Transport Dullas Alahapperuma. People of Matara expressed their unanimous support to reconstruct the railways destroyed by the terrorists. "We will reconstruct the northern line and refurbish all stations by mobilizing our strength, wealth and time as Sri Lankans," he said.
The project, due to commence officially on March 19, will be set up and streamlined under a special Secretariat patronized by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
It is expected to commence the Yaldevi train service shortly with the implementation of this project. This move would symbolize the unity and co-existence of Sri Lankans.
The Minister thanked the Co-ordinating Committee and leaders of all political parties in the Matara District for the support and approval given by them to initiate this project.
