Disaster Management and Human Rights Ministry Secretary Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha yesterday said over 6000 civilians have arrived to the ‘No War Zone’ declared by the Government since January 22.

The Government declared a ‘no war zone’ to facilitate civilians in uncleared areas to enter cleared areas. Addressing the media at the BMICH, Prof. Wijesinha said the United Nations has also admitted that civilians fleeing from uncleared areas are being targeted by LTTE terrorists.

"Over 20 civilians who attempted to enter the ‘no war zone’ died due to heavy artillery fire by the terrorists", he said. He said the Peace Secretariat has launched a special program to integrate people living in liberated areas into society.

"The Future Minds of Jaffna exhibition had a major impact on the youth and student population in Jaffna. They gained knowledge on current technological developments in the world". The English language and IT education project to be launched by President Mahinda Rajapaksa this year will be implemented in the North, he said.
