We'll get Prabharakan dead or alive: Sri Lankan Army

Monday, 19 January 2009

With troops closing in on the last standing Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) bastion of Mullaittivu, Sri Lanka's Defence Ministry has revealed that the hunt for the absconding LTTE supremo Veluppillai Prabhakaran is only getting more fierce in coming days.

Speaking exclusively to TIMES NOW over the phone from Colombo, Sri Lankan Defence Affairs Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said that the Sri Lankan army, which is closing in on the final bastion of the LTTE, will ensure that Prabhakaran is nabbed dead or alive.

"There are no set bunkers for Prabhakaran and from the information we have, he is probably moving from bunker to bunker. He has about 1,000 LTTE cadres protecting him. We need to flush out Prabhakaran either way. We have no special preference whether he is caught alive or dead. Our aim is to flush out terrorism from this land", Keheliya told TIMES NOW from Colombo.

Sources in the Sri Lankan Army suggest that the troops are now within sniffing distance of the LTTE port of Mullaithivu, which will literally leave the LTTE chief with no where to hide. Pictures suggest that the LTTE chief was living in an expensively built, air-conditioned underground bunker in the Dharmapuram area, a border town between Killinochchi and Mullaittivu. Earlier, TIMES NOW have accessed pictures of an underground bunker where the LTTE chief Prabhakaran was allegedly hiding.
