Sri Lanka Ready for 50th Cuban Revolution Anniversary

 Colombo, Dec 8 (Prensa Latina) Solidarity groups formed by women, trade unions and political forces constituted the National Organizing Committee for the celebration of activities for the 50th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in Sri Lanka in 2009.

The first activity will be a meeting on January 9, in which different topics of the Cuban reality in these 50 years of revolution will be discussed, together with their impact in the whole world.

Sri Lanka Communist Party secretary general Dew Gunasekara, also Minister for Constitutional Affairs, presided a meeting in which the Organizing Committee was established.

Other leaders such as local Minister of Science and Technology and president of the Sri Lanka-Cuba Parliamentary Group, Tissa Vitarana, leader of the Socialist Party, Jayatilleke de Silva, president of the National Committee of Solidarity with Cuba and S. Nagendra, secretary of the Sri Lanka-Cuba Friendship Association, were in the activity.

Other organizations like the Popular Liberation Party, trade unions, young people and women groups were there too.

They all agreed the National Organizing Committee should have an executive group, formed by the leaders of all the groups interested in coordinating a solidarity program.
