"Our vision has enable a former child soldier to become the Chief Minister of the Eastern Province while the former second in command of the LTTE and the Head of the Eastern Province to become a Parliamentarian," the President noted.
Speaking further, the President said an 18-year-old female who was breathing her last within a bunker after battling with the forces was found by a military officer recently. She had a cyanide capsule on her neck, a gun and a pistol. She was treated at the nearest medical dressing station and her life saved.
President Rajapaksa in his budget speech announced that the SLT Mobitel Upahara Package would be extended to the clergy, indigenous doctors and workers in cooperatives. This package had earlier been limited to public servants and pensioners.
Representatives of all religions, Minister Pandu Bandaranayake, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel Chairperson Lesha De Silva Chandrasena and Chief Executive Officer Suren J. Amarasekera were present at the occasion.
