Visit/Tourist Visa for less than 30 days
 

Foreign passport holders visiting Sri Lanka for a period of less than 30 days for the purposes of tourism or transit are required to apply online and obtain the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) through the official website of the Department of Immigration & Emigration of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (www.eta.gov.lk) with effect from 01st January 2012. When applying for an ETA, please ensure the applicable fees are paid through the arrangement described on the said website (www.eta.gov.lk)and obtain a confirmation for receipt of your ETA application.  The ETA will not be responsible for payments made to any other web sites.  Therefore, always ensure that the payments are made by accessing to Sri Lanka ETA website in order to avoid repayment of visa fees at the port of entry to Sri Lanka.


Important


The initial validity of the ETA is limited to 30 days from the date of arrival in Sri Lanka. However, it can be extended up to a period of 6 months. Please visit www.immigration.gov.lk for further details.

On the basis of reciprocity, citizens of the Republic of Singapore, the Republic of Maldives and Seychelles are exempted from the requirement of obtaining ETA to visit Sri Lanka. 

Consulate General of Sri Lanka does not issue visa for less than 30 days for the purposes of tourism or transit.

 

Visit / Tourist Visa for more than 30 days


Those who wish to stay in Sri Lanka for more than 30 days should obtain prior visas from the Sri Lanka Embassy / Consulate in their country of residence or the nearest Sri Lankan Embassy, which is concurrently accredited to their country.

Documents required for a visit visa for more than 30 days

1.   Visa application form duly filled & signed (click here to download the Visa Application)
2.   Original passport (with a minimum validity period of 6 months from the date of entry into
      Sri Lanka)
3.   One recent passport-size colour photograph
4.   Confirmation of travel arrangements such as a copy of return air ticket or flight
      itinerary obtained from a travel agent or cruise-ship reservation    
5.   Applicants, who are not Swiss passport holders should produce a valid Residence Permit in
      Switzerland
6.   A self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage (CHF 7.00) for the Mission to return
     the passport through registered mail  
 
Single entry tourist visa up to 3 months costs CHF 55.00 for Swiss passport holders. Please note that visa fee is payable in Swiss Francs only. Consulate of Sri Lanka will not accept any other foreign currency.  If you are not a Swiss citizen, please ascertain the visa fee applicable to your nationality by calling the Consulate / Visa Section via phone No 022 919 1250.   

When submitting a visa application personally by hand, visa fee must be paid at the counter of the Mission. When a visa application is sent by post, the applicable visa fee has to be paid to the Mission’s bank account, whose details are given below, and enclose a copy of the bank payment receipt.

Visitors could get their visas extended for a further period of 3 months at the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Colombo.

If there is no Sri Lankan Embassy/Consulate accredited to your country of residence, you can obtain entry visas upon arrival at the port of entry, provided that prior permission of the Controller of Immigration and Emigration is obtained. Sri Lankan Embassies/ Consulates abroad are authorized to issue entry visit visas valid for a maximum period of three months only.
