Presidential commission probing disappearances to commence sittings on Jan 18

 

The Presidential Commission to probe alleged abduction and disappearances of persons resident in the Northern and Eastern Provinces during the period 1990-2009 will commence its first public sittings on the 18th of this month.


The inaugural sitting of the Commission is scheduled to be held in Karachchi DS Division in Kilinochchi from January 18 to 21.

All persons from this area who have submitted complaints to the Commission will be notified to appear for an independent investigation into their complaints. Public Sittings will be continued in all Granma Niladhari Divisions in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, LLRC National Action Plan website said.


According to the website , the ICRC and the UNDP have expressed satisfaction over the manner in which the Commission is proceeding in terms of implementing its mandate.
