Sri Lanka assembles first ever “Double Decker” bus PDF Print E-mail

 First ever “Double Decker” bus assembled in Sri Lanka was introduced by the Micro Cars Ltd, the automobile manufacturer.The first bus assembled was presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa on 12th August. Prof,G.L Peiris, Minister Kumara Welgama and several others participated in the ceremony.The Manufactures are expecting to promote the bus both for the local and the foreign market.

The required spare parts were imported from China in accordance with the agreement entered with the business community in China during President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s visit to China in 2006.
 
The value of the luxury bus which can accommodate 102 passengers is estimated as Rs.12 million.

The “MICRO car” project was initiated in 1999 with the intention of producing a safer, economical, environmental friendly and affordable car. “MICRO cars” are designed and developed using at least 60% of local components, the company said.
