Sri Lanka: President says morality of war heroes an example to the nation PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 28 July 2008

President Rajapakse has emphasised that the morality of the war heroes engaged in humanitarian operations is a fitting example to the entire nation. He said only a humanitarian operation was underway to consolidate the freedom of living of all communities. The President was addressing the first North Central victorious mammoth public rally to consolidate the victory of the United People’s Freedom Alliance. It was held at the Anuradhapura Esplanade yesterday. The people of all electorates of the District reached the venue of the meeting in processions headed by their candidates.

Addressing the gathering, the President assured to enthrone democracy in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu, liberating the civilians from the terrorists. The soldiers told him  that they do not have both limbs but only the hands and were prepared to return to the battlefront for the capture of Killinochchi once they are discharged after recovery.

The President assured that the day is not very far when democratic rights granted to the civilians of the East, will be enjoyed by the innocent civilians of Killinochchi and Mullaitivu. He fervently appealed to soldiers who had gone on leave to return to their regiments at a time when the final victory in the war is nearing.

He pointed out that they were not prepared to betray the dedications and victories of the war heroes achieved through supreme sacrifices by going for ceasefires. The operations will continue unabated until terrorism is uprooted from the motherland. He said the terrorists are talking of ceasefires when ITN’s Cameraman was injured in one of their attacks.

Further addressing the rally, the President opined that his government had not forgotten the farmers and was implementing development projects on their behalf, despite the colossal expenditure incurred on the operations to vanquish terrorism. Major projects are afoot in every region on behalf of agriculture.

He revealed that 7200 million rupees will be spent on the reconstruction of the Parakrama Tank, which will be launched on the 14th of next month. The President recalled that it is the present government that ensured the due rights of the cultivators.

Many parliamentrians addressed the public rally. It was organised by the North Central Chief Ministerial candidate Berty Premalal Dissanayake and the group of Freedom Alliance candidates.
