United National Party as well Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna had also handed over nominations for both the provinces. Rauff Hakeem led Sri Lanka Muslim Congress will jointly contest with the UNP this time too. Meanwhile, Arumugan Thondaman led Ceylon Workers Congress has also handed over their nominations only for the Sabaragamuwa province. Newly formed Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP) had announced that they would not contest the elections as their party was not yet accepted by the Department of Elections.
