More than 501 Tigers have been killed in battle in the last 20 days, the Army said. Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara, the military spokesman said that an unknown number of LTTE cadres and 223 soldiers have also been injured in the clashes from March 5 to March 24. Fifty soldiers died during this period.

Nanayakkara said military operations were continuing in Mannar, Vavuniya and Jaffna district's Muhamalai area. "The Security Forces have been successful in capturing 31 square kilometres of territory south of the A14 road in Mannar," Nanayakkara said. He said so far this year some 115 bodies of LTTE cadres have been handed over with 11 more bodies to be delivered to the International Committee of the Red Cross.
