Indian Navy, Coast Guard on High Alert to Prevent LTTE Intrusion

THE INDIAN NAVY and the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) were put on high alert following Saturday's sea tiger and Lankan Navy clash near Mullaithivu on Saturday, Ramanathapuram based agency reports said yesterday.

A comprehensive security cover was put in place in Indian territorial waters to prevent any LTTE infiltration, the report said quoting an ICG spokesperson. He was quoted as saying that the LTTE cadres might sneak into India following intense fighting between the Sri Lankan Navy and the LTTE. He said that the Tamil Nadu police had also intensified coastal patrolling.

Both air and sea surveillance were tightened with the help of the Indian Navy to prevent the LTTE intrusion, he added.
