| Offensives Result in Heavy Losses to LTTE |

MANNAR: TWO SEPARATE OFFENSIVES conducted in PARAVAKULAM and MALIKAITTIDA areas resulted in death to at least six terrorists on Sunday (23).
Troops after observing the presence of a gang of Tigers in PARAVAKULAM area around 9.15 a.m. on Sunday (23) opened fire on them using snipers. Five terrorists were confirmed killed in the attack. In a similar attack troops got rid of one terrorist in MALIKAITTIDA area on Sunday (23) when the troops sighted him from a distance. The same day (23) troops on search and clear operations in SIRUKULAM and NADUNKANDAL areas recovered one decomposed dead body of an LTTE cadre with one cyanide capsule, one dog tag, one booby trap, four anti personnel mines and two 60 mm mortar traps. In the meantime intermittent fighting that erupted in the north of JANAKAPURA, KOKKUTHUDUWAI and KIRIBBANWEWA areas in WELIOYA during Sunday (23) troops struck terrorist bunkers and eliminated at least six terrorists in separate attacks.Meanwhile, one terrorist booby trap exploded when the troops were moving in the general area of KIRIBBANWEWA Sunday (23) at about 3 .45 p.m. One soldier sustained injuries in the explosion.
