(Colombo-Lankapuvath-August 29) – Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa has assured to provide all facilities the Government could extend in the resettlement of civilians.

MP Rajapaksa addressing a special meeting in Jaffna library yesterday instructed the officials to operate the 162 buses of the Point Pedro, Killinochchi and Karainagar Depots in Jaffna, according to a proper schedule to provide a streamlined and efficient service.

Action was taken to provide four million rupees for irrigation facilities in the District.   

It was revealed that arrangements were in place to grant knowledge on English and Information Technology to the youth of Jaffna with the support of the British Government.  

British High Commissioner Peter Hayes referred to the plans crafted to establish a British English Centre in Jaffna with support from British Council. Senior government officials and defence officials attended this meeting. 

The meeting broached development effected to all sectors including roads, agriculture, fisheries, education, irrigation, transport and trade.  

Meanwhile the Poonaryn Sanguputti Bridge on Mannar Nawakkulli A32 route will reduce the distance between Colombo and Jaffna by 50 km and distance between Mannar and Jaffna by 100 km. 

This 288 m long bridge will be built at a cost of Rs.1000 million.   

The meeting was organised to examine the progress of the development projects launched in the Jaffna District in parallel to the “Uthuru Wasanthaya” 180-day accelerated programme carried out on the instructions of the President.
