By: RASHMEE ROSHAN LALL , TNNLONDON: In a high-profile reminder to the international community that Sri Lanka continued to face the deadly threat of suicide terrorism, president Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that if Colombo continued to be denied global support in its war against the LTTE, the world will have failed in its fight against terrorism.
In a speech to the Oxford Union, the 185-year-old debating society that is arguably the most famous and famously contrary in the world, Rajapaksa said Colombo's failure to worst LTTE would make a victim of democracy itself. He said, in a blunt rebuke to western capitals allied to the so-called ‘war on terror', that LTTE was "the most brutal terror outfit the world has ever seen and defeating them requires global support. What Sri Lanka is doing is fighting the terror outfit single handed to ensure that democracy and respect for human life prevail in the world."
