| The Non-Aligned Movement Summit will commence in Egypt today |

(Colombo-Lankapuvath-July 14) – President Mahinda Rajapaksa who left the country to attend the 15th sessions of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is expected to arrive in Egypt today, July 14. It will commence tomorrow after welcoming the heads of state. The Non-Align movement was formed with the inaugural meeting held in Bandon on April 18, 1956. Its present membership is 118 and 17 nations participate in observe status. The objective of the NAM is to fulfill the tasks that the international community failed to achieve in attainment of development goals and realization of peace overcoming various challenges and consolidating political and economic freedom of the Asian, African and Latin American people.
