Sri Lanka: Navy logistical vessel sinks after underwater explosion PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 10 May 2008

A Navy logistical vessel (A-520, MV Invincible) was damaged and caused to sink as a result of an underwater explosion around 2.15 am today (10).  The vessel was moored at the Ashroff jetty in Trincomalee harbour, at the time of the explosion, according to military sources.

The A-520 was a merchant vessel built in 1970's and handed over to the Sri Lankan Navy following a court order after it was apprehended while transporting 254 illegal migrants off Tangalle in 2003.

No lives were lost due to the explosion, sources add.
