The Government yesterday initiated a special educational program for the students of displaced families who are sitting for the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination this year under the directive of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Resettlement and Relief Services Minister Rishard Bathiudeen gave away reading material, uniforms and stationery to 700 A\L students in the welfare camps in Vavuniya under this program.

 

A contingent of A/L teachers has been assigned to teach these students and conduct classes to fully cover the syllabus by the Education Ministry. In addition the services of teachers in national schools will also be acquired to update their knowledge and make them ready for the Advanced Level examination.

  

Health Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva yesterday opened a State Pharmaceuticals Corporation outlet in the Ananda Coomaraswamy welfare centre in Settikulam . A new hospital was also opened in the Welfare Centre Zone III yesterday.

  

A ward complex was also opened at the Settikulam Base Hospital by the Health Minister yesterday.

  

Trade, Cooperative Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardena and Indegenous Medicine Minister Tissa Karalliyadda were present.
