 COMMANDER OF SRI LANKA Army Lieutenant General G.S.C. Fonseka called on Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Tariq Majid and Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, here Monday, a press release in Pakistan said.

He exchanged views with the Joint Chief of Staff Committee Chairman on matters of mutual military relations between the two countries and other subjects of common interest during his visit to Joint Staff Headquarters. They also discussed ways of enhancing military cooperation between both countries.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman expressed that Pakistan and Sri Lanka historically enjoyed excellent relations based on mutual trust, confidence and commonality of interest in maintaining regional peace, security and stability. The Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman reiterated Pakistan’s support towards the capacity building of Sri Lankan army by offering cooperation in military training and in various other fields of common interests.

Meanwhile, Commander of Sri Lankan Army, Lieutenant General G.S.C. Fonseka, visited General Headquarters and called on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, on Monday.

The visiting dignitary remained with the COAS for some time and discussed matters of professional interest. Subsequently Lieutenant General G.S.C. Fonseka was given a detailed briefing by concerned Personal Staff Officers. Earlier, on arrival at the General Headquarters, Lieutenant General G.S.C. Fonseka was presented a guard of honour.

He reviewed the parade and took salute from the smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army.
