Production at the Valachchenai Paper Factory has resumed. The work was launched yesterday under the patronage of Ministers Susil Premajayanth and Amir Ali. Minister Susil Premajayanth said they will definitely win after holding a free and fair election. Already they have won the local government election, which was held in a peaceful environment.  He said not a single incident was reported.  Ranil Wickramasinghe who is in Colombo is asking to disarm Pillaiyan.  The Minister said however, they are not carrying weapons.   He queried as to why they are not asking to disarm Prabhakaran and why they did not utter this for the past 25 years.

The factory was shut down last year.  Two production machines have been repaired. The production resumed under the Eastern Reawakening programme. The factory’s nett profit last year was 100 million rupees.  It spans 300 acres. Chairman of the factory S.Amarasinghe said the work force is 240.  Another programme to cultivate maize in the factory premises is planned. Minister Premajayanth said they were able to launch another successful project under the Eastern Reawakening programme.
