Congressman Shuler said he expects to brief the US State Department on the necessity of the pending IMF loan urgently.

May 29, Colombo: Visiting United States Congressman Heath Shuler today expressed his satisfaction over the welfare facilities provided by the Sri Lanka government to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Vavuniya.

Speaking to the media this morning, Mr. Shuler said that he has observed the standards at welfare camps and they are totally different from what has been reported in the US.

He said there are no shortcomings evident in those areas, as portrayed by some international media.

The visiting US delegation promised to assist in infrastructure development for the internally displaced in the north.

The delegation also stressed that they feel Sri Lanka should get the pending International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan as it is very important for the country economically.

Congressman Shuler said that he expects to brief the US State Department on the necessity of this loan urgently.

But he added that the loan should be used only for economic development in Sri Lanka and not for political activities.
