Operations to Liberate Besieged Civilians Intensified PDF Print E-mail

 WANNI: HUMANITARIAN OPERATIONS to liberate besieged Tamil civilians in WANNI went on for another day on Thursday (8) as planned inflicting heavy damages and casualties on Tiger terrorists and pushed them further towards the north away from their existing bunker lines

Troops during those confrontations in the general areas of VADAMAKULAM, ALKADDIVALIKULAM, PALAMPIDDI, VILLIYAKULAM and PALAIMODDAI in VAVUNIYA met terrorists head on and killed at least three terrorists and injured approximately five.

Meanwhile, many clashes erupted in the general areas of MANIPULLKULAM MANIPULLKULAM, NADUNKANDAL, MANTOTA in MANNAR eliminated eleven terrorists. Troops captured two terrorist bunkers connected to LTTE trenches during clearing operations in MANIPULLKULAM. More than five terrorists had been reportedly injured in the clashes.

One soldier paid the supreme sacrifice in the LTTE mortar fire in NADUNKANDAL Thursday (8) at about 9.40 a.m.. Seven soldiers conducting clearing operations the same day in WANNI area sustained injuries due to explosion of LTTE anti personnel mines and booby traps.

Troops also recovered forty -eight anti personnel mines, five hundred rounds of ammunition, four booby traps, three trapped 81 mm bombs and four hand grenades in the general area of ALANKULAM on Thursday (8).

At the same time, troops resisting terrorist movements in the general areas of JANAKAPURA, ANDANKULAM and KIRIIBBANWEWA in WELIOYA killed three terrorists and injured nine more terrorists Thursday (08). Troops captured one LTTE bunker and recovered sixteen hand grenades and two boxes of T-56 ammunition containing one thousand and five hundred ammunition rounds around 3.45 p.m..

Similarly, troops in KIRIIBBANWEWA and JANAKAPURA areas found eighty-one anti personnel mines and eight improvised explosive devices.

One soldier was injured in the clashes and was admitted to hospital.
