During his maiden address to the media in New Delhi the actor, Mr. Vijayakanth was asked to comment over reports that India was supplying arms to Sri Lanka and it was against the interests of Tamils in the island. "Why do you think it is against Tamils? It may be of commercial interest,’’ Mr. Vijayakanth said media persons. He said there were two different views in this issue; one was Tamils and Tamil Nadu and the other from an Indian point of view, a national issue. He said the Sri Lankan government was trying to get close to China and Pakistan but India doesn’t want that to happen. “There are a few confusions like this. In this context, you can take the view on this issue.” He termed the LTTE as a banned organisation and so refused to comment further on their activities. At the same time, he wanted India to intervene to resolve the ethnic issue and also ensure human rights for Sri Lankan Tamils. Mr. Vijayakanth also gave a new twist on the Sethu Samudram canal project controversy. "We are hearing reports that there are seven such natural sand structures around the world. If that is true, then it is not true that Ramar Sethu was not built by Ram. The Indian government should find out the truth by conducting proper research," Mr. Vijayakanth added (Courtesy: Sri Lanka Army and Daily Mirror) |
