Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa made an inspection visit to Manik Farm in Chettikulam today (30) to observe the progress of the ongoing humanitarian relief activities.

The visit was also aimed at instructing the relevant officials to plan out the next steps of the services provided by the Government, our correspondent from Vavunia said.

During his discussions with relevant officials, Mr. Rajapaksa also instructed them to begin by providing dry rations instead of the cooked meals that have been distributed so far among the civilians housed at the welfare centers.

Mr. Rajapaksa also noted that, apart from providing immediate relief measures, officials should expand the services provided to these civilians into the areas of electricity, transportation and road systems, to make their temporary stay at these camps trouble-free. He said that the Government will be initiating a programmed to resettle these civilians as soon as possible.

Mr. Rajapaksa was accompanied by Minister S.M. Chandrasena, Minister Risath Bathiyutheen, Minister Douglas Devananda, Minister V. Muralitharan, Chief Minister of the Eastern Province S. Chandrakanthan and several others.
