The Canadian government will never remove the ban imposed on the LTTE PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 16 April 2009

The Canadian government reiterates that the ban imposed on the LTTE will not be removed under any circumstances. Canadian minister of Immigration and Emigration Jason Kenny pointed out that certain Tamil groups are conducting agitations and fasts in front of the Canadian parliament in order remove the proscription.

The Minister stated that the Canadian government is willing to see the end of the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka, but not by any means prepared to do away with the LTTE ban.

He further said the LTTE is now in its death bed and the protestors are trying to resuscitate the terrorist organisation. The LTTE has no legal backing to conduct its operations in any form in Canada since the imposition of the ban in 2006.

Minister Jason commenting on the measures taken by the Sri Lankan government to confront terrorism said Canada will continue to provide humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka.

He added that Canada has in its possession all information relating to LTTE activities on using civilians as a human shield for its protection.
