The Government will soon implement a massive water supply scheme in the Jaffna peninsula utilising the water of Iranamadu tank. Drinking water facilities are expected to provide to the people in the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts too after they are resettled in their original dwellings, Minister of Water Supply Mahinda Amaraweera said. The National Water Supply and Drainage Board has deployed adequate water and gully bowsers to the welfare centres in Vavuniya and Omanthai for civilians fleeing from uncleared areas.
The Minister stated that the Asian Development Bank has provided Rs. 28, 000 million for the implementation of drinking water supply schemes islandwide and the people in the Batticaloa district benefited by the – Unnachiya water supply scheme implemented under the ADB fund.
