Monday, 09 February 2009

As the security forces are further shrinking LTTE hiding areas, 4701 more Tamil civilians who were kept as hostages by the LTTE terrorists have crossed over to liberated areas from the Puthukudiyirippu in Mullaittivu amidst heavy beating and shooting by the LTTE, during the last 24 hours, 9 February, defence sources said.

The civilians have been directed to the welfare centres established in Vavuniya after providing with meals and medical treatment. "The Army and the GA's office are ready to facilitate these civilians and their security and welfare are well guaranteed", military official said speaking to defence.lk.

Yesterday, marking the highest number of displaced people crossed in a single day over to the liberated areas, 5593 Tamil civilians reached security forces seeking safety for their lives.

Troops are now engaged in a rescue mission to open escaping routes for the Tamil civilians who are forcibly held by the terrorists as a human shield.
