| Alliance leaders say President’s aim is to devolve power to the East |

Minister Dilan Perera has pointed out that it is the onus of the civilians to seize the Eastern Provincial Council election to the optimum, as it is the first opportunity to devolve power to them.
The Minister said that the President has already won with regard to the East. They were victorious at the Batticaloa Local Government elections. He called upon the civilians to grant the same decision at the Provincial Council polls. Dilan Perera was addressing a public rally in the Trincomalee town yesterday, presided by Parliamentarian Basil Rajapakse, it was organised to ensure the victory of the Freedom Alliance at the Provincial poll. Parliamentarian Basil Rajapakse, in his address opined that the President decided to conduct the polls to entrust power to the Province, as the Eastern civilians are the proper inheritors of the area. However, he accused that the United National Party and the Muslim Congress were engaged in an untiring effort to re-merge the North and East. Mr. Rajapakse said Sambandan respects democracy. He should not become an LTTE stooge. He is a veteran democratic politician. He invited Sambandan to join the government at a time when the lives of the Eastern Tamils were to be reawakened and unity of all communities ensured. He also reminded that freedom will be assured to all communities and religions. Basil Rajapakse vowed that the government will safeguard this freedom. He said not a single community will be made hostage of another community.Ministers Felix Perera and Dr. Mervyn Silva were among the other speakers. Ministers W.D.J. Seneviratne, Bandula Gunawardena, Susantha Punchinilame, Sarath Kumara Gunaratne and Neomal Perera, Chief Minister of the North Central Province Berty Premalal Dissanayake and Southern Chief Minister Shan Wijelal de Silva and several others were present.
