Friday, 18 April 2008
Havana, April 18 (acn) Kirthi Sigera, ambassador of the Socialist Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka to Cuba stressed Cuba's assistance to Third World Nations and the example it represents.

The diplomat said that the Cuban people is happy because they have that great leader who is Fidel Castro, “and exceptional human being.”

“If there were many leader like Fidel Castro, the world would be a better place, safer to live in,” said Sigera who also referred to the similarities between Sri Lanka and Cuba in terms of climate, vegetation and the hospitality of the peoples of both countries.

“Here (in Cuba) you enjoy safety, because there is a government and non-government organizations willing to help, that is why it was easy for me to play my role as ambassador,” said Sigera who just concluded his three-year diplomatic services in Cuba.

Sigera said that the government of Sri Lanka is fully committed to wiping out any hurdle that may affect the unity of the people of that country, and he added that although peace is not fully reigning there, the population grew 7 percent last year.
