Exodus in Wanni soars: 'LTTE committing war crimes', say fleeing civilians PDF Print E-mail

 234 civilians, among many who were children and adolescents, from the non-liberated areas at Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu, have sought protection with security forces on Sunday (Jan 11).

 

The civilians were from Pothunakam, Kaddaikadu and Vathiran general areas who are said to have undergone unprecedented hardships under LTTE, Jaffna security sources said. Security officials speaking to defence.lk said that these civilians have made their way towards liberated areas evading LTTE killer squads sent to hunt fleeing people from the non-liberated areas.

 

 

The people who have come in seven groups through out yesterday (12th) since 8a.m., were received by security forces and later sent to the IDP welfare centre at Jaffna. 

 

Meanwhile, a family of 4 Tamil civilians including 2 children have also sought protection with troops now operating in general area Iranamadu, at around 9.30a.m. They were sent to the IDP welfare centre at Kilinochchi, security sources said. Separately, 5 more civilians, 3 males and 2 females from Vaddakkachchi area have also fled from LTTE and sought protection with security forces, security sources further said.
