Modern radiation treatment unit for Maharagama Cancer Hospital PDF Print E-mail

 Minister of Health, Nimal Siripala De Silva yesterday inspected the newly completed Radiation Treatment Unit at the Cancer Hospital Maharagama.

According to Health Ministry sources, the total expenditure incurred in the construction of the unit was one billion rupees. The Unit will commence treatment within the next two months.

During his inspection visit, Minister inquired into immediate measures that should be taken to begin treatment.

 

The Government will spend 30 million rupees annually to maintain the new radiation treatment unit.

 

Minister Silva noted that the Government was incurring this colossal expenditure with the intention of enhancing health facilities that can be acceed by ordinary people.

Hospital Director Dr. Kanishka Karunaratne said about 15,000 new patients seek treatment at the Cancer Hospital annually. He also said that 700 patients visit the clinic daily while 850 are warded at the Hospital.
