President Mahinda Rajapaksa has condemned the Mumbai terrorist attacks in which gunmen struck 10 sites Wednesday night across India's financial hub, killing scores of people and taking hostages in two luxury hotels. President Rajapaksa’s statement condemning the attack is given below in full:
“My Government and I hasten to condemn most vehemently the brutal acts of terrorism that killed more than 100 persons and injured many more in the attacks carried out in the Indian city of Mumbai last night. Our thoughts go out to the families of those killed and injured in these acts of terror; we express our deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to those injured, and the safe and early release of hostages.
These unfortunate attacks bring into focus the urgent need for concerted action by all countries to eradicate the menace of terrorism, wherever it is, and whoever the leaders and manipulators of such violence may be.
