 States: “IIGEP has never alleged that there was absence of political will on the part of the Government of Sri Lanka”

Justice P.N. Bhagwati who chairs the International Independent Group of Eminent Persons (IIGEP) has, in a communication addressed to His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa,  clarified the position taken by the IIGEP in its 6th Public Statement relating to a supposed “absence of political will” on the part of the Government.

 "The Islamic people of the world have suffered immensely from war. We know that hundreds of thousands of our fraternal Muslims people live in refugee camps due to Israel - Palestinian war and other conflicts in the world.

The President Mahinda Rajapaksa was quoted as saying during his speech delivered on the occasion of the visit of the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to  Sri Lanka, at Sapugaskanda.

Arrangements finalized to launch the Uma Oya Scheme PDF Print E-mail

 All arrangements have been finalised to launch work on the Uma Oya Multipurpose Scheme, expending a colossal sum of 45 billion rupees.

Work on this Multipurpose Scheme  will get underway on Tuesday. It will strengthen the economy of the Wellassa people cultivating the Uva and the South. Minister Chamal Rajapakse said this project is another notable feature of the Mahinda Chintana policy.

Iran to sign energy accords with Sri Lanka PDF Print E-mail

 Several agreements in the fields of energy will be signed during the President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to Sri Lanka. President Ahmadinejad is on his way to Sri Lanka on Monday at the second leg of three-nation tour. During his visit to Sri Lanka, President Ahmadinejad will hold talks with his counterpart, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka and Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama on issues of bilateral interests.
