 President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said slain Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle had been a leader of Catholic and Christian communities of Sri Lanka. In his condolence message, the President said Fernandopulle had played an important role in bringing about greater understanding among the different communities.

 LTTE suicide cadre has blown himself killing 14 civilians including the minister of highway and road development, Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, in Weliweriaya, 19 Km northeast of Colombo around 7.30 this morning, April 6.

 LTTE terrorists have exploded a bomb targeting a road marathon organized in the Weliweriaya town around 7.30 this morning. Minister of Highways and Road Development Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, who was the chief guest to the occasion along with many civilians was reported killed in the cowardly bomb attack.  According to latest reports received, at least 12 people were killed and many injured in the explosion.
