Sri Lanka takes Tiger chief's bunker, airstrip: military PDF Print E-mail

 COLOMBO (AFP) – The Sri Lankan army said Tuesday it had captured an elaborate underground bunker complex believed to have been the home of the leader of the Tamil Tigers as well as the rebels' last jungle airstrip. 

Soldiers seized the facilities amid a fresh escalation of fighting in the north-east, where government troops are pressing on with an all-out assault on the remaining patch of jungle held by the ethnic guerrillas.

Sri Lankan Army troops of the 11th Light Infantry (SLLI) under the 58 Division led by Brigadier Shavendra Silva have captured a main LTTE hideout, what is believed to be a major residential site of the terror leader Prabakaran.
