COLOMBO (Reuters) -- Nearly 800 civilians have fled Sri Lanka's shrinking war zone in the last day as the army bears down on the last strongholds of separatist Tamil Tigers, the military said on Wednesday. 

Troops are marching to the port of Mullaittivu across a small wedge of north-eastern Sri Lanka still held by the Tigers, where aid groups say more than 200,000 people are trapped in an area of no more than 330 square km (127 square miles).

High-level ministerial delegation to convene in Dubai 

Dubai, UAE: A high level delegation from Sri Lanka, comprising Honourable Faizer Musthapha, Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau’s (SLTPB) Managing Director, Dileep Mudadeniya will be visiting Dubai to participate in a two-day meeting with Heads of all Sri Lankan Missions in the Middle East called by Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting will be chaired by Honorary Rohitha Bogollagama, Minister of Foreign Affairs on January 14th and 15th.

 Sri Lanka is firmly behind the Palestinian people, Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama told Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani at the Emiri Diwan (Royal Palace) in Doha on Sunday.

  

Minister Bogollagama briefed the Emir of Qatar on current developments in Sri Lanka stating that the LTTE was on rapid retreat militarily and no longer enjoyed the goodwill of the Tamil people who he said had been alienated from the national democratic and development agenda for an extended period of time by the LTTE.
