 TamilNet seems to be working overtime now on disinformation, with claims that the cause of its leader has been taken up by the highest in the world. Most recently it has attributed to the British Foreign Secretary – and from a Sri Lankan expatriate point of view, you cannot go higher than that – some strange views on genocide and Sri Lanka. It declared that Britain’s Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, agreed Tuesday with parliamentarians who said that the Sri Lankan government is 'quite prepared to go ahead with acts of genocide.'

Tiger Leader personally recruiting civilians by force 

 As the Sri Lanka Army speeds up its advance into the remaining 63 square kilometres of land controlled by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), its chief Velupillai Prabhakaran had reportedly told his senior leaders that he would not leave the country and would fight the military until his death. According to the civilians and the LTTE cadres who had surrendered to the military, it has been revealed that most of the senior level leaders such as Pottu Amman, Soosai and Prabhakaran’s son Charles Anthony themselves are leading from the front in the battlefield under the direct command of Prabhakaran.

US Government and Sri Lanka Create First Energy Efficient Lighting Center in South Asia PDF Print E-mail

 Colombo:  Sri Lanka will host the first energy efficient lighting Center of Excellence in South Asia, thanks to funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).  The Regional Center for Energy Efficient Lighting (RCEEL) will serve as a research hub to develop new lighting technology to be used in Sri Lanka and South Asia.  Rebecca Cohn, USAID Mission Director, and Dr. Krishan Deheragoda, Chairman of the Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) of the Government of Sri Lanka, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch the project on Tuesday, February 24, 2009.

Japan funds to improve health and livelihood of conflict affected and plantation communities PDF Print E-mail

The Government of Japan through its "Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP)" has provided a total of US$ 173,710 (approximately Rs. 20 million) to three projects. These projects are expected to improve health and livelihoods of conflict affected communities in Batticaloa and Vavunniya and of plantation communities in Rathanapura.
