Post-Kilinochchi,
President Mahinda Rajapaksa expects the Sri Lankan armed forces to make
rapid advances and capture Elephant Pass, which controls access to the
Jaffna Peninsula, and other key targets in a short while. 
Secretary
Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa visited the Air Force bases at Hingurakgoda,
Chainabay, and Katunayaka yesterday, 3 January, in order to appreciate the
outstanding service rendered by the SLAF towards the success of the Wanni
liberation offensive in Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu fronts. 
Followed
by the historic feat achieved by Army in capturing Kilinochchi, Commander of the
Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka accompanied by Wanni Security Forces
Commander and a few senior officers of the Army Headquarters, flew to Vavuniya
on Saturday (3) morning in a bid to take stocks of the ground situation in Wanni
theater of war. 
Suspected
supporters of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) committed an arson
attack on the Sri Saddhatissa International Buddhist Center in London... 
Commander
of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda made a visit to the
Eastern Naval Command on the 01st of January 2009 in order to review the
operational readiness of the Navy's Fast Attack Squadron and its Fleet Units
which have been playing a pivotal role in imposing an effective naval blockade
in the North-eastern seas denying the enemy sea access and control. |
