Grand welcome at Rashtrapathi Bhavan for President Sirisena

President Maithripala Sirisena who arrived in India yesterday was warmly received by the Indian President Pranab Mikherjee at Rashtrapathi Bhavan this morning.
 
He was accorded a 21-gun salute followed by a guard of honor.
 
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries were present to welcome the President.
 
Following the ceremonial reception, President Sirisena went to Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi Samadhi and recorded his respects for Mahatma wrote in the visitor’s book.
 
Later, Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj who called on President Sirisena thanked the Sri Lankan President for selecting India as the first overseas visit in office.
 
While expressing his gratitude to all assistance given by India to Sri Lanka, President Sirisena recalled the centuries old cultural and religious ties between the two countries.
 
President Sirisena will hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Modi early this afternoon at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, where the Prime Minister will host a luncheon in honour of the President.
